The Multi Sports Club was set up 20 years ago August 2004 as a result of an initiative by Peter Hull MBE who was Hampshire's disability sports development officer at the time.
A small committee of parents was formed, we set up a bank account, registered as a charity and started organising sports sessions once a week on Thursdays. As time went on we added Sunday morning multi sports and aimed at ages 11 - 25. Numbers increased and we had 2 sessions on Thursdays, and 2 sessions on Sundays. We added football skills on Friday evenings, and had 2 sessions, and also participated in the pan disability football league, with one team winning the trophy in the first seasion. Soon we added a dance group to our activities.
During COVID we moved to zoom sessions, offering dance twice a week on Mondays and Saturdays, Sunday morning fitness routine, and Friday night fitness routine. We also offered some social events on zoom, cooking pizza, quizzes and scavenger hunts. Following the return to face to face sessions our numbers are still lower than pre-COVID, and we have passed on our Sunday morning sessions to be organised by Eastleigh Borough and Romsey Mencap Society.
The club is affiliated to Royal Mencap Society, and also achieved various certifications such as Clubmark, and Hampshire sports awards. Over the years we have won several awards with Hampshire and Eastleigh sports eg volunteer of the year, disabled sportsperson of the year etc.
We have continued to develop, and as the original members grew older we changed the age range of the club, so now we will accept members over the age of 16.
At one point we had a Children in Need grant that paid for some after school sports sessions at Osborne School in Winchester (the local special needs school).
We continue to offer sports sessions Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, Dance sessions Mondays and Saturdays, and craft sessions Saturdays once a month.
